        Ernie Gillis, computer and production maven at Berklee and an independent factotum of inestimable resources, helped me research and edit the book, and assembled this website with the help of Chee-Ping Ho and Madeleine Toh. For the site he screened hundreds of other sites to find those of real value, rather than the “who I starred and slept with” or “those vicious rumors are absolutely untrue” stuff posted about and by some artists. There are links to the “good stuff” sites, although tthere are certainly many more out there we didn’t find. There are also links to sites with more song lyrics we could publish, discographies, producer- and engineer-ographies, a whole wealth of items you might want to track down about a few of your favorite artists or records from I.T.H.


        SPECIAL NOTE: Late in 2000 VH-1 conducted a survey of some 700 music professionals: top songwriters, artists, record label execs, producers, critics at the major papers and magazines - the major movers and shakers of the biz. The object: SELECT THE 100 GREATEST ROCK SONGS OF ALL TIME. Check this out via our VH-1 link. Quite by surprise to us (the book was complete before the survey results came in), over 2/3 of the records discussed in INSIDE THE HITS are on the VH-1 list! Since then, VH-1 has also announced the results of their survey to name the 100 Greatest Rock Albums. It’s all on their site...
