John Speaks: I dont want to be fiddling round the world singing Its Been a Hard Days Night when Im 30, do I? If the films work out well, Ill like that. People say thats where The Beatles are heading, and I suppose it makes sense. I also like A&R-ing records, [and] Id like to continue writing for other people. For now, however, he was content to bask in success." George Martin: "There has been a tendency in recent years for artists to want to produce their own records, because the role of a producer has become too important. Its been kind of self-defeating, ... because the artist cant be completely objective, and a prime role of a producer is to be objective. He needs to step back and look at the whole painting instead of just concentrating on the brushwork in the corner. Its one of the most important parts of making a record. He must also contribute and be creative. He must see within the raw material, both the song and the voice, something which can be brought out that other people may not see. Some producers do it by taking their ideas and giving them to the artist to carry out. The better ones do it in such a way that the artist feels he could have easily done it himself."
